Things I learned on vacation.....

So last week on Tues. my spontaneous hubby decided we should get away for the weekend. We took off to San Diego on Fri. and just got back Monday. Most 'vacations' imply fun and relaxation, but as you may know, traveling is always unpredictable. This vacation would be more of a learning experience......I impart these words of wisdom to you.

-Stay away from the "Mad Greek".
This is a restaurant in Baker, the place where the biggest attraction is a giant thermometer.
-Do not take the advice of your husbands construction working co-workers, their food standards may be questionable.
We came to try out the 'famous' gyros and were hugely disappointed and disgusted. The place is filthy inside, a fly landed on my head while waiting to order a drink. There are jars full of slop throughout the restaurant which must be for decoration. I cannot imagine what would possess someone to open up a jar and help themselves.

And want to know what the 'mad' in "Mad Greek" is for?
Mad expensive! Almost 25 buck for some sub par sandwiches in a dumpy atmosphere in podunks-ville California.
Pass!

-Do not go to the beach expecting not to get dirty or wet, you will be a 'fun killer'.

-When your husband tells you that the kids are just going to get their feet wet, he is lying!

-When you child gets salt water in his mouth he will create a goatee of spit on his chin trying to get it out.

-You will not remember to put sunblock on the tiny part in your hair and it will burn.

-The SPF in your moisturizer and make up does not cut it at the beach. Your bright red face will announce to everyone that you are an amateur beach goer.

-Your daughter will rock the 'Mowgli' crawl to keep off the sand.
(That's a Jungle Book reference.)

-This is how Nathan smiles....seriously.

-Seals have a serious stink problem.
Gag a maggot bad!

-Laila is the adventurous type. She will taste sand and seaweed.
Maybe she will have a taste for sushi or seafood when she grows up.

-A nursery rhyme will invoke a new kind of terror on you while you sing lullabies to your baby and sit on the balcony of your room.
It goes something like this, "Rock a bye, Laila in the treetops. When the wind blows, the cradle will rock. When the bough breaks, the....."HOLY FREAKING COW!!"

Along came a spider to sit down beside her and frightened Amanda away. Do I look like Miss Muffet? Within 7 seconds you will be safely back inside your room with the door locked and bolted shut, ending the use of the balcony for good.

-Your kids will not get naps, and when they fall asleep in the car they will be plucked from their slumber to go play at the beach.

To be continued.................

Cute post! Vacations are hard with kids, especially at the beach. When we took Jack there in July he most definitely ate some sand too!

Wow...why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel?

We looked at the Mad Greek when we stopped in Baker. Adam said "no way"! He had tried it before too!

And this post is exactly why I am so happy we took no kids! Sorry...

Ok, so how many times did I laugh? I cannot even count. HILARIOUS...really wish I could have discussed this with you on the phone but you were being all secretive so I could read about it. :) Love Nathan "actually" smiling. LOL Really liked your Holy freakin cow too. :)
